The problem that I have with runway trends, is the fact that it is not always ‘realistic’ to pull off.
I mean, would you really show up at the office wearing a lime green ski jacet with extra long sleeves, a trooper hat and matching platform boots longer than the Spice Girls’ career? Mmm, exactly.
However, not all trends are only made sexy by Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid – it’s actually quite easy to pull of some of the hottest looks without looking like an extra in Zoolander 3. You just have to be smart about it.
Here are 5 trends worth giving a go this chilly season.
This classic wardrobe staple will always remain a classic, but for this season it’s all about the length. The longer, the better.
Your navy coat should also be the center of your outfit, so look out for dramatic waist belts, side pockets or collarless coats to throw over a slogan or crisp white collar shirt.
FAUX FUR SLEEVES
I must admit that faux fur sleeves are currently my secret style obsession. What I love about this trend is that you can wear it for any occasion being it super casual, semi-formal or a night out. Work it at the office by tucking it into a high waist pencil skirts – chic galore!
BRIGHT BAG CLUB
We’re talking crayon bright! Take away the dullness of winter days with a bag brighter than Zac Efron’s pearly whites. During colder months, we are tempted to wear neutral, dark and grey tones – I probably own a sweater in all 50 shades of it. Invest in a good quality bag to make your winter outfit pop.
Turtleneck sweaters are back! Rihanna recently released a line of cropped turtle neck tops for Fenty Puma by Rihanna. Nothing screams chic better than a messy bun with an oversized turleneck sweater. Wear it in any colour and size, but the look works best with ripped boyfriend jeans or super tight faux leather tights.
This trend is such an easy way to add an elegant touch to your outfit and a sweet little Parisian je ne sais quoi. Scarves are available at any retail outlet and it is one of the less expensive ways to make your outfit look more expensive.
In the end it’s all about having fun with fashion! As long as you feel comfortable and confident, you’re halfway there.
